Most breast lift procedures can be performed under a general anaesthetic as Day Surgery procedures. The operation involves removal of the excess skin and reshaping the breast. The reshaped breast will be lifted and will sit slightly higher on your chest. Your nipple will remain attached to your breast throughout the surgery so nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed are unaffected.
After arriving at the hospital there will be some paperwork that must be completed including admission forms.
You will meet your anaesthetist who will discuss the details of your general anaesthetic and your options for pain relief following your operation.
Dr Broadhurst will see you to answer any final questions before the surgery. He will then draw markings on your chest where the incision will be located and implants placed.
After completing the pre-operative formalities you will be taken to the operating theatre.
All incisions are closed with internal dissolving sutures. Dressings will be applied and a surgical bra fitted before the anaesthetist wakes you up.
After your operation you will be taken to the recovery room where you will be closely observed by our experienced nursing staff who will take care of you until you are awake and ensure that you are comfortable.
You will be allowed to go home once you have fully recovered from your general anaesthetic which is usually three hours from the completion of your operation. After your operation it is very important that you remain in the care of a responsible adult who will stay with you overnight.
Your anaesthetist will prescribe pain killers for you to take in the days following your surgery. There will be mild to moderate discomfort following your operation and it is advisable that you take it easy for the first week. An appointment will be made for you to see Dr Broadhurst two weeks after your operation.
It is best to take it easy for the first few days following your operation and gradually increase your level of activity to a level you’re comfortable with. You can return to work as early as one week after your operation but for women with more physical occupations two or more weeks may be necessary to enable greater recuperation.
